The Nicholas Church, built between 1790 and 1792, is clad in planks and stands on a high foundation. The main part of the building, which is an octagon on a square base, is adorned with a pear-shaped dome covered with wooden shingles. The church is adjoined by a pentagonal altar and a refectory.

The wide entrance to the church is framed by five massive logs. The walls of the building are clad, and the roofs of the altar, refectory, and porch are made of metal. The bulbous top has retained the old shingle covering with remnants of green paint.

The last reconstruction took place in the late 19th or early 20th century. At that time, the walls were clad, metal roofs were installed, and the shingles on the upper part of the dome were replaced. On the porch, a solid fence made of wide vertical boards replaced the balusters.

The church was closed in the 1930s, remained empty for a long time, and was then used for economic purposes. Despite this, the Nicholas Church remained in better condition than other wooden architecture monuments in the vicinity of Velsk. Since 2009, enthusiasts have been working on its conservation.
