In the early 20th century, repairs were being made to the brotherhood refectory in the monastery. During these works, a warm stone church was added to the refectory, consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.

After the Soviet period, when the church along with the refectory was used as a village club, the partially ruined building was returned to the monastery on December 4, 1996. A stage was set up in the dome and altar area, a booth for a film projector was added to the western facade, the frescoes were painted over or destroyed, the ceiling structures had almost rotted, and the roof leaked. Over two years, the monastery carried out restoration of the ceilings, roofing, facades, internal walls, and floors of the church, ordered window and door blocks, installed heating, and set up an iconostasis. A main entrance porch was added to the northern side.

On November 29, 1998, the restored Nicholas Church was consecrated by Archbishop Clement of Kaluga and Borovsk, with the co-serving Bishop George of Lyudinovo. From 2007 to 2011, the church was completely painted.

The architectural style of the church represents eclecticism with Russian-Byzantine motifs. The church is single-domed and tripartite: the altar and dome space transitions through an arch into the added refectory part with a cylindrical vault, from where one can enter a large narthex. The dome brotherhood part is separated from the refectory by a grille and a step of the solea. The interior decoration includes a carved wooden iconostasis with painted icons, carved kiots with icons, as well as gilded chandeliers and sconces.

Currently, evening and morning services in the Nicholas Church are held on weekdays alternately with the Transfiguration Cathedral, as well as on feast days and the commemorative days of St. Nicholas on May 22 and December 19. The church operates year-round.
