The Kaluga Spiritual School opened in January 1815 and was initially located in the same building as the seminary on Naberezhnaya Street, 4. Due to a lack of space, it was decided to separate the school, moving it to a separate building. In the summer of 1837, a house belonging to merchant Y.I. Bilibin was purchased for 72 thousand rubles, one of the best buildings in the city. The necessary renovations were completed by September 1840, and classes began at that time.

In 1903, a decision was made at the diocesan clergy congress to build a church at the spiritual school. It was decided to attach a building to the main building, with the second and third floors designated for the church. The foundation stone was laid on August 30, and a year and three months later, the building was ready. On December 1, 1904, the church was consecrated in honor of St. Guriy of Kazan.

The new church was relatively small, measuring about 15×10 meters. It adjoined the school hall and was separated from it by doors that opened the full width during services, expanding the church's space. To the left of the altar was the sacristy. The iconostasis was single-tiered, and the floor was laid with Mettlach tiles. The church was adorned with five small domes, and the exterior walls were decorated with white trim and columns on a red background.

After the school was closed by the Bolsheviks, the church was converted into an assembly hall, and a stage was placed in the altar area. The five-domed crown of the church was demolished.

The building of the former spiritual school at Darvina Street, 13/33, was transferred to the diocese on August 3, 1995. At that time, it housed the Kaluga Medical Technical Laser Center, a small business support agency, a sewing workshop, a pawnshop, an economic school, and other organizations.

The church in honor of St. Guriy was equipped for services and consecrated on November 25, 1995, by Archbishop Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk. Since August 1995, the building of the former spiritual school with the house church in honor of St. Guriy, Archbishop of Kazan, housed the Kazan Convent. In 2011, after the convent moved to restored buildings in the village of Spas, the house church of St. Guriy was transferred to the Kaluga Orthodox Gymnasium, which is located in the same building. The Kaluga Spiritual School with a boarding house for 45 people is also located here.
