The white church with golden and blue domes is a unique architectural masterpiece of the 19th century.

The current church had two predecessors. Unfortunately, there are no documentary records of the first one; it is only known that it was a wooden church that once burned down. The second church, also wooden, was purchased in Sumy in a ready-made form and named in honor of the Nativity of Christ.

By the mid-1820s, the church had fallen into disrepair, and the villagers began to think about building a stone church. This idea was realized only decades later. The new church was built over eleven years with the funds of the parishioners, and finally, on September 17, 1862, the ringing of the bells invited the villagers to prayer.

The church, built through collective efforts, became a source of pride for the village also because the altar was made from boards specially brought from Mount Athos. This story is associated with the name of Hieromonk Gerontius, who was born in Kursk and took monastic vows in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, after which he retreated to the holy Mount Athos. At that time, the construction of the stone church in the village of Ulanok was nearing completion, and the parishioners wished to have an altar in the new church made from the trees that formed the Life-Giving Cross.

The priest of Ulanok conveyed this difficult request in a letter to Hieromonk Gerontius on Athos. The joy of the villagers was immense when cypress boards and several cedar and fir trees were delivered by sea from Greece to Odessa, and then to Sudzha. Thus, the Church of the Nativity of Christ acquired the altar that the people of Ulanok had dreamed of, and the remaining pieces and shavings from the holy trees were given to the parishioners as keepsakes.

For a long time, the new stone church delighted the parishioners, but during the years of widespread disbelief, the bells in the village of Ulanok fell silent for decades.

Today, prayers once again resonate in the church. For twelve years now, the people of Ulanok have been restoring the house of God, starting in 1988 with the active support of Priest Nikolai German from Borki. In June 1997, the Orthodox gathered again in the Ulanok church for worship.

Currently, internal restoration work is underway in the church. Professional restorers and students from the Kharkiv Academy of Arts and Design, frequent visitors to the village of Ulanok, are literally restoring the wall frescoes, once created by Venetian masters, inch by inch.

The church is not only gradually regaining its original appearance but is also becoming even more beautiful. The Church of the Nativity of Christ in the village of Ulanok was the first in the region to receive nighttime illumination. Those who have seen the soft light emanating from the church onto the sleeping settlement will forever remember this scene.
