In the cell where the Ambrose Church is now located, people of all ages and classes came to seek advice from the elder. Here, Father Ambrose passed away on October 10/23, 1891. After his death, thanks to the efforts of his spiritual child and benefactor S.V. Perlov of the Shamordino Monastery, a brick casing was built over the house. When the monastery was closed by the Bolsheviks, the cell was moved to the village of Shamordino, and a garage was arranged in the brick casing.

With the revival of monastic life at this site, a temple was established, consecrated on July 15/28, 1996, by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia in honor of St. Ambrose of Optina. Daily services are now held here.
