The church in the village of Smorodino was built with the funds of parishioners in 1912 and named in honor of the feast of the Intercession, which has since become the village's patronal feast celebrated annually on October 14. This day is considered one of the most significant for the residents, and it is celebrated by all, young and old. On this day, the elders tell the youth the story of how during the war, the residents of one city turned to the Virgin Mary, pleading for protection. During the all-night vigil in the church, they saw the Mother of God with a host of saints and angels, who spread her veil over them and offered a prayer for the salvation of the world. This event is depicted on the main icon of the church as a symbol of heavenly protection.
Perhaps God's blessing has touched the village, as the residents sincerely believe in it. In 1931-32, during the period of collectivization, the church was closed and used as a grain storage facility. In 1986, reconstruction of the building began to convert it into a sports hall. At the end of 1995, the church was restored and consecrated by Archbishop Ioann.
The church building is made of stone, has a single dome, and is column-free, consisting of a bell tower and a dome part. Previously, the bell tower had several tiers, but only the two lower ones have survived to this day. The main part of the church has a gabled roof and is built in the shape of a ship. The facades are richly decorated. Inside, the church is divided into three parts: the altar, the main room, and the narthex. The wall paintings have not survived due to the reconstruction into a sports hall and storage.
At the end of December 1995, the church reopened. It is located in the center of the village, next to the cemetery. According to local historian Ryazanov, the church represents architectural value.
