The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bolshaya Kulikivka was built in 1808 and is located on the outskirts of the village, near a wide ravine where the dried-up stream of Kulikov used to flow. Some villages that were part of the Bolshaya Kulikivka parish are first mentioned in the land survey book of the Oryol district from 1647. Until 1808, the villagers attended the Znamenskaya church in the village of Znamenskoye (Domnino).

In 1808, the current church was built for the parishioners and consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1901, the church was expanded, and two additional altars were added. The iconostasis, installed in 1849, was painted pink and decorated with gilded carvings. The church was surrounded by a fence made of wild stone with a wooden balustrade. A zemstvo school operated in the village, and in the village of Malaya Kulikivka, a church parish school was opened in 1897.

The church was closed in the 1930s but reopened after the Great Patriotic War.
