Archangel Michael Church (Mokry Michkass, Penza Region)

Фото 1
The chapels of the church are dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the icon of the Mother of God "The Sign."

The church in honor of the Archangel Michael was built in 1906, although other sources state it was in 1912, designed by the diocesan architect Ehrenberg. In the early 1930s, the church was closed and converted into a grain storage facility. The bell tower was never constructed. The square base of the church is topped with a drum and rotunda, to which three semicircular apses adjoin from the east. Chapels are located to the north and south, ending with powerful zakomaras and featuring beautifully designed entrance portals. To the west, there is a rectangular refectory. The church is executed in the "Russian" style and richly decorated with elements of ancient Russian architecture, such as keystone archivolts and wide frames.
