In 1896, a stone Orthodox church with three altars was built in the village of Subbotino. The central altar was consecrated in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, the right one in honor of the Holy Spirit, and the left one in honor of Alexius, the Man of God. There were 1,023 parishioners, and a literacy school operated in the parish. The church staff included Priest Georgy Alekseevich Shakhovsky and psalmist V. P. Maltsev. The church had three desyatinas of estate land and thirty desyatinas of field land.

In 1939, the Bolsheviks destroyed the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church. According to parishioners, on June 14, 1939, under the leadership of Yakov Fomich and Timofey Klimov, signatures were collected, allegedly to preserve the church. However, in the document where people signed, it was later added that the church should be blown up, which indeed happened. The church was destroyed, the bell tower was demolished, and ancient trees were cut down. Attempts were made to build a club and a school on the site of the church, but nothing succeeded. During the war, a shell hit the almost completed school building, and now there is a wasteland. A new church in the village of Subbotino was built in another location, initiated by Archimandrite Hippolyt.

In 1984, Father Hippolyt returned to Russia after eighteen years of service on Mount Athos. He longed to stay in the homeland he loved and missed. To build the church, he sold his house and collected signatures to remain in the parish. The construction of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church began.

However, fate had other plans: Father Hippolyt was appointed the rector of the Rylsk Holy Nicholas Monastery. His efforts were not in vain: Viktor Viktorovich Khlopov, a native of the village, became the pastor of the building church.

The construction of the church was challenging. The dilapidated building of the former kindergarten was bricked up, and the walls inside were plastered and painted. The funds left by Father Hippolyt were insufficient, but Viktor managed to attract villagers and sponsors. With their money, an altar was added, and a dome was made. Great assistance was provided by Viktor's parents, the chairman of the collective farm V.F. Surnenkov, the head of the DRSU N.A. Dorenksy, the store manager V.V. Vorobyov, parishioners T.A. Martsinyuk, T.A. Stepanova, and many others. Every adult resident considered it their duty to work on the construction of the church for at least one day. As a result, the church was built, gas was supplied, and services began. Father Viktor became the rector of the Subbotino Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church on March 21, 1995.
