The church in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Relieve My Sorrows' in the Kazan Holy Ambrose Monastery was built in 1890. It was established along with a shelter for weak and sick residents, as well as a nursing corps. Nearby was a two-story brick hospital. The funds for construction were provided by Anna Perlova, the wife of an entrepreneur and owner of a tea packaging factory, originally from these parts. Experienced doctors worked in the hospital, providing assistance not only to the sisters but also to local residents and pilgrims. Up to sixty incurably ill women resided in the shelter. The church was consecrated in 1902 by Kaluga Archbishop Benjamin.

In 1923, the monastery and the monastic shelter were closed. The church was desecrated and partially destroyed, and various secular institutions were housed in it one after another. After the monastery was returned to the believers, the church 'Relieve My Sorrows' was the first to be restored and consecrated in May 1990.

A few years later, the shelter resumed its work. Currently, about 30 elderly nuns live there, many of whom survived the difficult war years and persecution for their faith. These residents worked hard in the monastery for a long time, and now, when they have become frail, other sisters lovingly care for them, trying to make their last years more comfortable. In the cells, one or two people live together. There is a special room for bedridden patients, where caregivers are on duty around the clock, providing complete care. Weekly services are held in the church at the shelter, and clergy administer communion to the bedridden sisters in their cells. The building of the shelter is spacious and bright, with high ceilings, cozy, filled with live flowers, and a flowerbed with benches for rest is arranged in front of the entrance. The shelter has a small dining room, laundry, and a housekeeper's room. Residents can attend services daily: they are transported to the church in wheelchairs. For those who cannot attend the church due to health conditions, monastic rules are read in their cells. Those at the point of death are anointed and often receive the Holy Mysteries of Christ. Many sisters have already completed their earthly journey, having been granted a peaceful Christian death in the monastery. Collective prayers are offered for the departed.
