In 1773, land was allocated for the second city cemetery behind the New Sloboda, opposite the Yamskaya Sloboda, in the area of modern Nekrasov Street in Bryansk. From 1776 to 1779, with funds from merchant of the first guild P.S. Ustinov, a parishioner of the church in honor of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Tikhvin', a stone church was built at the cemetery in honor of the Uncreated Image of the Savior. According to the resolution dated April 21, 1779, the consecration of the new church was entrusted to the igumen of the Bryansk Peter and Paul Monastery, Paisiy. In the same year, the construction of a stone bell tower began. It is assumed that the church had an altar in honor of Saint Mitrophan, Bishop of Voronezh, as it is marked on the 1906 map of Bryansk as Mitrophan's Church, and the cemetery next to it was named the Cemetery of Saint Mitrophan. In the 'Historical Description of the Churches and Parishes of Bryansk and the District' from 1905, the church is not mentioned, likely due to the absence of an independent parish and congregation.

In 1929, the Bryansk regional finance department proposed to close Mitrophan's Church, as it was not in use and was in a state of neglect. This decision was implemented in February 1930. Soon the church was demolished, and the cemetery was closed at the end of 1949. By the blessing of Archbishop Melchizedek of Bryansk and Sevsk, construction of a new church began in 1995 on the site of the former cemetery, and construction work continues to this day.
