The Cathedral of Christ the Savior, a lost cathedral in the Russian style, was built between 1891 and 1894 in the village of Borki, Kharkov province, on the site of the imperial train crash in 1888.

The project for the cathedral was created by academician of architecture Robert Robertovich Marfeld, and the construction was financed by local manufacturer I. Voronin. The ceremony for the laying of the cathedral was attended by Empress Maria Feodorovna, Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, and other members of the royal family. The cathedral, designed to accommodate 1400 people, was a majestic structure surrounded on three sides by a covered gallery and topped with a huge golden dome. All the external gilding of the cathedral and chapel was done with gold leaf.

The imperial train crashed in October 1888 in the area of the Kursk province. When the train was destroyed and the entire royal family was trapped under the debris, Alexander III, possessing great physical strength, lifted the roof of the carriage on his shoulders and held it up until everyone was able to escape.

During the Great Patriotic War, the cathedral caught fire, and the golden dome collapsed. The cathedral and the nearby chapel were ultimately blown up at the end of the war. In modern times, only the chapel of the Savior, located 60 meters from the cathedral, has been restored.
