Chapel of the Resurrection of Christ in Livny

Фото 1
A large brick church-chapel is located at the main city cemetery, consecrated on September 12, 2004. This building is a square structure with a four-pitched roof and a dome, as well as a narthex, above which rises a bell tower. The church is affiliated with the Georgievsky temple.

The city cemetery in Zalivenka is one of the oldest. It was known by various names among the people: the merchant cemetery, the prison cemetery, the Jewish cemetery, and the old cemetery. It was also said: "Take it to the tenth." This expression is related to the fact that in the past, a traditional fair called the tenth was held at this site, as it took place in October, the tenth month of the year. In other months, fairs were held in different parts of the city and were named according to the ordinal number of the month. Over time, the fair was forgotten, and "the tenth" came to refer to the city dump, which still exists today.

Historically, well-known townspeople and residents of the Livensky district were buried in the old Zaliven cemetery. The new part of the cemetery began to be used in the early 1970s. There were rumors about a decree from the city authorities in the 1970s, according to which, 20 years after the cemetery was closed, it could be leveled and used for construction. Fortunately, such desecration has not yet occurred.
