The village has been known as a church parish since the 17th century. The Annunciation Church was part of the Belgorod and Kursk dioceses and was consecrated in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the church was rebuilt several times from wood with funds from parishioners and local noble landowners.

The village has long been known for the priestly dynasty of Bulgakovs, which completely made up the clergy of the church. Among the priests of the Annunciation Church were Mikhail Osipovich Bulgakov, who served in the 1760s and 1790s, Mikhail Bulgakov in 1874 and 1883, Pyotr Bulgakov in 1893 and 1898, Grigory Vasilyevich Ivanitsky in 1898 and 1902, as well as Sergey Ivanovich Loginov since 1902.

The last church, a stone building with a bell tower, was built in 1890 with funds from parishioners. The parish was not wealthy: the land amounted to 33 desyatinas, there was no salary, and the income of 250 rubles per year went to support the clergy, which consisted of a priest and a psalmist. The library had 33 volumes. The church received significant financial support from the church elder, merchant Pyotr Nikolayevich Prizemin.

Next to the church was the parish cemetery with several crypts of local noble and merchant families. A special attraction of the village was the grave of Matryona Ryzhkova-Pavlova, known as "The Unknown" from the painting by I.N. Kramskoy.

The church was closed by the decision of the Oblispolkom on April 19, 1936, and services were not held there until the 1990s. During this time, the bell tower was lost, which parishioners are now trying to restore. Currently, services have resumed, and parishioners are striving to return the lost shrine.
