The archbishop's courtyard of the Archangel Michael Church is located on the outskirts of Kaluga, heading towards Moscow, in a relatively new area that includes the Severny settlement, the Kubyaka microdistrict, and the under-construction Baikonur microdistrict. The idea of building the church arose from the need to create an Orthodox center in the new microdistrict that emerged during the Soviet era when spiritual life was not valued.

In 1998, a group of believers from the Severny settlement, striving to establish an Orthodox church, sought the blessing of Bishop Clement, who supported this initiative. In 1999, Metropolitan Clement approached the Kaluga administration with a request to allocate land for the construction of churches in the new areas of the city, including the Severny settlement. By 2001, after numerous approvals, a plot of land measuring 1 hectare was allocated on Distant Lane, near the department store. The initial plans included the creation of a large church complex, including a church in honor of the Archangel Michael, a Sunday school building, a bell tower, and utility buildings.

On February 5, 2001, by the decision of the Diocesan Council, the parish of the Archangel Michael was officially established, and in May of the same year, it received state registration. Since building the church requires significant funds and time, it was decided to start with the construction of a parish house with an assembly hall. Services for the residents of the area were planned to be held here. The construction was carried out by the Kaluga Diocese from 2002 to 2005. In September 2006, Father Konstantin Komarov was appointed as the rector of the courtyard. By the time he arrived, the building was ready but without finishing and utilities. On May 27, 2007, in the parish house, with the blessing of Metropolitan Clement, the first Divine Liturgy took place, marking the beginning of the church's liturgical life. Today, the parish conducts full-fledged church activities, regularly holding services and church rites. The parish is completing the finishing of the church house and plans to build a new church.
