Khokhol Museum of Folk Art and Crafts 'Masters'

Фото 1
The House-Museum of Folk Art 'Masters' is located opposite the Victory Park in the village of Khokhol. It is a true wooden hut with carved elements on the windows, cornice, and gates.

The museum was opened in 1985 at the initiative of the late first secretary of the Khokhol District Committee of the Communist Party, I. N. Medvedev. Funding was provided by the Khokhol Village Council, and the construction became a true people's project. It was not just a construction but a reconstruction of an old building of the district social security office, which previously served as a clinic, kindergarten, and even a police station. Thanks to the efforts of local residents, the building transformed into a beautiful carved terem. Many organizations and individuals participated in the construction: workers from MPMK worked on the walls and floors, welder V. S. Sagaydachny covered the roof with metal, and I. A. Gribanov and A. Stolyarov from the poultry farm clad the house. The facade is decorated with carvings by masters V. and S. Zanin.

The museum consists of five sections, each dedicated to its theme.

The first room is the peasant room. Everything is neatly arranged: an ancient Russian stove, a spinning wheel, a table with a samovar, a cradle, sleeping platforms, a weaving loom, and other household items. All exhibits are authentic and donated by local residents. This room is especially dear to the older generation as it is connected to their lives. Films by local director Vasily Panin were shot here, including 'At the Dawn of Misty Youth' about poet Alexei Koltsov. Famous actors such as Aristarkh Livanov and Lyubov Sokolova participated in the film. Musical short films featuring well-known singers and actors, including Igor Slavyanov and Alexander Pyatkov, were also filmed in the museum.

The next hall is dedicated to carpets. Here are works by folk master M. Gladneva and her students. Gladneva's carpets are known not only in the district but are also exhibited in museums in Moscow and abroad.

The 'Painting' room includes paintings by artists from the Khokhol district. Special attention is drawn to V. Terekhova's painting 'Execution of Communists,' reflecting the events of 1919. Also interesting is 'Portrait of a Girl' by N. Pakhomova, a young artist and teacher awarded with certificates and diplomas.

The museum features works by woodcarver E. G. Leschev, who inherited the craft and tools from his father, a well-known master.

The Hall of Military Glory contains helmets, cartridges, letters from the front, and photographs donated by villagers.

In the large exhibition hall, exhibitions of works by local residents are held. The Khokhol land is famous for folk handicrafts, and more and more people are getting involved in this.

The 'Masters' Museum has become a place where both young and old come, bringing their crafts and antique items. It receives positive feedback from visitors and hosts themed holidays for children with games and workshops.

The museum is included in the tourist route 'Paths of Khokhol Springs.'
