On July 1, 2011, the State Art Museum took operational control of the property and art collection of the Generations Fund. The main building of the museum, located in Khanty-Mansiysk at Mira Street, 2, was built in 2005 specifically to house this collection.

The presentation of the main building of the museum took place on August 4, 2011. Before the opening, a logo and corporate identity for the institution were developed by Natalia and Sergey Lozovye, members of the Union of Designers of Russia from Khanty-Mansiysk.

Among the significant events in the museum's history is the opening on June 15, 2011, of the new building and exhibition of the branch "Gallery-Studio of Artist G.S. Raichev" on Chekhov Street, 1. Construction of the building began in 2005 based on a project by People's Artist of Russia Sergey Goryaev and lasted seven years.

The exhibition in the main building of the museum is organized chronologically, allowing visitors to trace the development of domestic art over the centuries.

The section on ancient Russian art includes icon painting from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Most of the icons come from the iconostases of ancient cathedrals, including the Tsar's Gates from the 17th century from Yaroslavl and icons from churches in the Vologda region from the late 17th and early 18th centuries. The exhibition features various icon painting schools: Novgorod, Rostov, Yaroslavl, and Vologda.

The section on 18th and 19th-century painting showcases works by famous Russian artists such as F.S. Rokotov, O.A. Kiprensky, V.A. Tropinin, I.K. Aivazovsky, I.E. Repin, V.M. Vasnetsov, I.I. Shishkin, and I.I. Levitan, as well as lesser-known masters: G.S. Destunis, P.A. Pleshanov, A.E. Hofman, and K.I. Gorbatov.

The early 20th century is represented by works of F.A. Malyavin, D.D. Burliuk, K.S. Petrov-Vodkin, B.M. Kustodiyev, K.A. Korovin, and L.S. Bakst.

The temporary exhibition halls regularly host exhibitions of artists from Yugra, Russia, and abroad.

The branch "Gallery-Studio of Artist G.S. Raichev" is unique in that it combines the studio of a working artist and a gallery where his creative legacy is studied. Exhibitions reflecting the main stages and discoveries of the artist are held here, as well as scientific publications and exhibitions, forming a large collection of his works. The new building has expanded opportunities for presenting the work of G.S. Raichev and other artists in the series "Dialogues with Raichev."

The funds of the branch "House-Museum of People's Artist of the USSR V.A. Igoshchev" include works dedicated to the autonomous district, its nature, and the residents of Yugra. The exhibition hall hosts exhibitions of contemporary artists and students of V.A. Igoshchev. The museum also features a popular music salon for creative evenings and concerts. In 2013, a Children's Art Gallery was established here with studio classes.

The State Art Museum successfully implements a number of cyclical projects: the annual Art May Day, Night at the Museum, Night of Arts, regional conference "Museum Communication," festival "Museum Alliance," series of traveling exhibitions "Treasures in the Tent," and plein air "Yugorskaya Academichka."

The museum actively promotes its collections, annually publishing scientific catalogs, exhibition brochures, collections, and art albums.
