The house, owned by wealthy merchants Kalinins, is a fine example of an urban estate in the Art Nouveau style. In the early 20th century, it was combined into a single ensemble with the Rakhmanov mansion on Bakuninskaya Street, house 2-4. Today, the building is used as a hotel.

The modern appearance of the estate was formed gradually. In 1862, a new stone house was built on the site of an old wooden house with a basement and attic. Almost forty years later, the owners, the Kalinins, who were engaged in the meat trade, decided to rebuild it, increasing its volume and updating the facades. In Moscow, they had several houses, of which, besides the house on Bakuninskaya, another one has survived at 27 Friedrich Engels Street. Alexei and Ivan Kalinins were also elders and benefactors of the Yelokhovsky Church located nearby.

For the reconstruction of the house, the Kalinins invited architect Pyotr Vikentyevich Kharko, who had recently graduated from the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1900-1901, the estate was significantly altered: the western volume of the building was enlarged, six window openings appeared on the main facade, and the internal layout was changed. The rich decoration of the facade, including the adorned window frames, reflects the architectural traditions of the early 20th century.

In 1908, the main house was divided into two apartments connected to the neighboring building, the Kalashnikov house, Rakhmanovs, by a passage at the basement and first floor levels.

After the 1917 Revolution, both houses were nationalized and turned into communal apartments. Later, there was a children's clinic No. 3 here, which moved out in the late 1970s.

After 1980, a mansard floor with a pediment and two volutes appeared on house No. 6 on Bakuninskaya Street, disrupting the original architectural integrity of the complex. The decorative elements also changed: the originally white stucco decor was supplemented with darkened ornaments.

Today, the main house of the Sychev estate, Kalinins, functions as a hotel where anyone can stay.
