The house, which is part of a vast estate, was built in 1822 by the noble Vasilychikov family. The full history can be learned by visiting the neighboring house No. 14 on Gogolevsky Boulevard. Since 1865, the estate belonged to the merchant family of Alexander Vladimirovich Alexeev.

After her husband's death in 1884, Elizabeth Mikhailovna Alexeeva, born Bostandzhoglo, divided the estate into two parts and sold the larger part with the main house. In 1885-1886, she built a small two-story mansion for herself at the corner with Kolymazhny Lane. The project was developed by Dmitry Nikolayevich Chichagov, who showcased his mastery of eclecticism here. The mansion, along with outbuildings and utility structures, forms a courtyard that opens up with beautiful gates onto the boulevard. On the end facing the courtyard, an oval ornament displays the owner's monogram, 'A.'

After E.M. Alexeeva's death in 1908, the mansion passed to her younger daughter, Elizabeth Alexandrovna Ruperti, who commissioned architect A.E. Erikhson to modify the interiors.

In 1918, the former owners were evicted, and the building was occupied by one of the departments of the People's Commissariat of Agriculture. During the Great Patriotic War and in the early post-war years, it housed the Main Directorate of Counterintelligence 'SMERSH' of the People's Commissariat of Defense of the USSR.

Currently, the building houses the financial department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
