Information about the building

On the small street Malaya Polyanka, as well as on the neighboring streets, a two-story mansion in the style of Moscow Empire stands out. It is adorned with rich decor and has a pair of entrance gates on either side of the main building.

In the 15th-16th centuries, the area where the streets Bolshaya and Malaya Polyanka are now located consisted of fields that were gradually settled by craftsmen, mainly cadets and palace coopers. In the 17th century, this area transformed into a large weaving settlement.

In the 19th century, wealthy merchants primarily settled on Bolshaya Polyanka and in the adjacent alleys, building or renovating estate houses here. The buildings were mostly one or two stories high. One of the small streets adjacent to Bolshaya Polyanka was named Malaya Polyanka in the early 19th century. In the 1840s, Afanasy Fet and Apollon Grigoriev lived here, and V.O. Klyuchevsky also visited.

The former main building of the Barjatinsky estate appeared here in the second half of the 18th century. According to available data, it was a wooden house with a mezzanine and a garden. Later, the house passed to Major N.D. Bibikov. The building was repeatedly reconstructed and was damaged in the fire of 1812.

The modern architecture of the house reflects the style of Moscow Empire, characteristic of post-fire Moscow in the 19th century. The main facade, facing the street, features a pilastered portico with a pediment and a semicircular window. The second floor is separated from the first by a cornice. There is no grand entrance from the street; access to the house is through the inner courtyard, which is accessed via gates on either side of the building. The facade is adorned with a richly decorated frieze with palmettes and griffins, as well as elegant sandriks above the windows of the second floor. The new metal gates are styled in late classicism. To the right of the house, a porch has been added, above which is a balcony on the second floor.

For some time, the building was in disrepair, lacking entrance gates and decor. Inside, there were abandoned chambers from the 18th century, and the wooden second floor had fallen into disrepair.

Restoration

During the restoration, the second floor was replaced with a stone one, and the decorative adornment of the facade was restored based on 18th-century analogs. New entrance gates and a fence were built. The walls of the house were painted red with white decor.

The restoration was carried out by specialists from 'Mosproject, 2' and was completed in 2012.
