Today, this estate in Moscow, recognized as one of the best in the Empire style, is known as the Leo Tolstoy Museum. However, the writer himself never lived here and never even visited. It is possible that the wooden house with a six-column Ionic portico caught the attention of the museum's founder, Valentin Bulgakov. He described the state of the building in the early 1920s as follows: "The house was ruined and neglected. The furniture from the unoccupied rooms had disappeared, only two or three stylish chandeliers and a wonderful ancient ceiling painting remained, which could not be reached by hand."

The main house of the estate was built between 1817 and 1822, presumably by architect A.G. Grigoriev, for Lieutenant Vasily Abramovich Lopukhin. The complex includes a white stone fence with gates and a one-story wing. After Vasily Abramovich, the house passed to his sons Abram and Vladimir, and then remained with the elder brother. A.V. Lopukhin was known as a translator and poet; in 1796, he wrote a hymn to Moscow.

Later, the estate passed to E.I. Stanitskaya and was reconstructed in 1895 by architect S.U. Solovyov. The main house has retained its original layout and details, remaining a characteristic example of Empire construction in the capital.

The wooden building with mezzanines on a stone semi-basement is located along the street. The windows are adorned with large fan-shaped locks. The facade is decorated with rustication, including windows. The portico is decorated with a frieze and Ionic capitals. Inside, a ceremonial enfilade has been preserved: a hall, living rooms, and a bedroom located along the main facade. The living rooms with mezzanines lead to the courtyard, accessible by a staircase in the corridor. The ceremonial rooms are decorated with decorative vaults and columns "under marble." Delicate cornice stucco and ceiling paintings have been preserved.

In 1920, museum collections were moved to the Lopukhins estate. The first exhibition at the new location was timed to the tenth anniversary of Tolstoy's death.

Today, it is one of the main "Tolstoy" addresses and a monument of federal significance.
