An impressive building stands out on Chernigov Lane, a two-story house on a high basement. Its central part noticeably protrudes forward, and the white eclectic window frames against the red background give the facade a special festive appearance. This building was the main house of a large estate.

The first known owner of the plot was Captain V. T. Rzhevsky of the Preobrazhensky Regiment, who built chambers here in 1710, which became the basis of the main building. The original appearance of the house can be seen on the courtyard facade, where decorative elements from the 18th century have been preserved.

Later, the estate was owned by merchant and manufacturer I. G. Zhuravlev. In the mid-18th century, he began large-scale construction on the site, erecting several service buildings for production needs and storage of goods. One of these buildings, a one-story structure shaped like the letter 'g', with deep basements, can still be seen to the left of the main house. In 1790, the main house received a third floor and a central risalit with a classical pediment.

From the 1840s until the early 20th century, the estate was owned by the merchant family of Grachev. In the mid-19th century, the facade of the building was updated: window frames and stucco in the neo-baroque style with elements of the 20th century appeared. During this time, a private men's gymnasium run by educator V. D. Kasytsyn was located in the building. The reconstruction for the gymnasium was carried out under the guidance of architect V. V. Sherwood. V. D. Kasytsyn was known as a mathematics teacher and a deeply religious person, and his gymnasium was fondly remembered even half a century later.

During the Soviet period, the house housed a secondary school, a medical college, and a kindergarten. In the 1980s, there were plans to open a museum for artist A. A. Plastov here. Currently, the building houses the International Fund for Slavic Writing and Culture.
