After the expulsion of the once-great army from Russia, General Bistrom showed courage in the Foreign Campaign, capturing Marshal Davout's baton and receiving the sword "For Bravery." He participated in the capture of Paris, for which he was awarded the Order of Saint Anna 1st class.

After Napoleon's final defeat, Bistrom led the 2nd Guards Infantry Division, was promoted to lieutenant general, and in 1825 became the commander of all the guard infantry, under which were Grand Dukes Nikolai and Mikhail. During the uprising on Senate Square, he supported the young Nicholas I, for which he was appointed general-adjutant.

His last military campaigns were the war with Turkey and the suppression of the Warsaw Uprising, in which his guard corps participated. In the battle with the Poles, he personally led his guardsmen into the attack, was the first to break into Osterlenka, and was wounded. For the Turkish campaign, he received the Order of Saint Alexander Nevsky, and for suppressing the uprising, the rank of general of infantry and the Order of Saint George 2nd class.

After the war, Bistrom was appointed commandant of Warsaw, and a year before his death, he became the assistant commander of the Separate Guards Corps, which was led by the younger brother of the emperor, Mikhail. However, the general's health, undermined by constant battles, required care. He did not retire but often rested in his ancestral homeland, where he died on June 16, 1828. He was buried not in Bavaria, but in Russia, to which he dedicated his life. His body was transported to Russia and honorably buried in the Yamburg estate of Romanovka.

The general's death was a tragedy for the guards. Officers commissioned the monument "Bronze Lion" at their own expense, built a chapel, and a house for veteran soldiers who stood guard at the grave. After the Bolsheviks came to power, the chapel was destroyed, but the monument and the house, now a recreation base, were preserved.
