The bridge was built between 1776 and 1778 according to the design of architect Vasily Ivanovich Bazhenov. It harmoniously fits into the shoreline and connects two high earthen mounds, creating a grand entrance to the estate. The bridge resembles a fortification, emphasized by stylized battlements reminiscent of those in the Kremlin. Its color scheme and diverse decor give the Figured Bridge, like other structures of the neo-Gothic ensemble, a festive and solemn appearance.
