In the early 20th century, the son of a respected Borisoglebsk merchant, E.D. Myagkov, built a People's House intended for public entertainment events and gifted it to the city. In 1928, the building was named after the revolutionary writer Chernyshevsky, and instead of public amusements, party meetings became more frequent here. The first theatrical performances in this house are associated with director Pavel Trapeznikov, who founded a collective farm theater in the 1930s, which became the predecessor of the modern cultural center. Today, the theater's program offers performances for adults and children based on works by classic and contemporary authors. The theater's productions are known far beyond the city and have brought Borisoglebsk numerous awards and fame.
