The complex of the Catherine Progymnasium includes the building of the district school, constructed in the 1850s, two wings with passage gates, and the main house with a house church, dating back to the first half of the 19th century.

In 1843, the undeveloped plot passed from titular adviser M.A. Pervukhina to her sister, captain P.A. Krasilnikova, and in 1851, to merchant F.P. Girbasov. A two-story stone house with a basement and mezzanines was built at the western boundary of the plot according to the design of 'free draftsman' E. Aparin, developed in 1856. In 1859, likely even before the construction began, Girbasov ceded a small plot of land 7 arshins wide for the building of the district school, on the condition that he would not be hindered in constructing the stone house flush with the school and in arranging windows on the ceded space.

In 1864, the provincial construction commission approved the project, presumably by the same E. Aparin, for the construction of a two-story stone wing with a vaulted basement and mezzanines at the western side boundary of the plot. The lower floor of the wing, extended into the depth of the yard, was intended for storage rooms with access to the street, covered by arches on four cross-shaped columns. The upper floor is divided by a longitudinal corridor connecting the front four-window room with the staircase at the rear facade. The wing received a separate entrance from the street through a narrow passage between the building and the stone fence on the side boundary of the plot. The facades of the house and the wing are plastered and finished similarly: with a cornice at the top, belts under the window panels, a molding separating the mezzanine area, and tiered corner pilasters. The windows of the lower floor are framed with profiled archivolts with relief cutouts in the tympana, while the windows of the upper floor are topped with sandriks on brackets. Simultaneously with the wing, stone gates with a three-tiered cornice above rusticated columns of symmetrical gates, framed by short fluted pilasters, were built along the street line between the wing and the house.
