At 4 Rakhmaninov Street stands the oldest school in Tambov, Gymnasium No. 7. Its history began with the construction of a private gymnasium building between 1905 and 1910 behind the Tambov Music School. The architecture of the building is done in the popular brick style of the time. The porch, balcony, and railings are adorned with artistic cast iron. The facade of the building is decorated with the coat of arms of Tambov, which has been preserved to this day. On the top floor, a house church was arranged with a large drum dome. The gymnasium was named after the first Tambov bishop, Saint Pitirim. The Pitirim Gymnasium was built and opened thanks to the support of the Tambov philanthropist Mikhail Timofeyevich Popov. Until 1917, the gymnasium had both real and gymnasium departments.

With the arrival of Soviet power, the building housed the Provincial Executive Committee of the party, but it was later returned to the school.
