The house, built by architect Sergey Petrovich Shcherbakov, became his personal project after he dedicated much effort and talent to creating mansions for wealthy townspeople. He constructed it at the intersection of Peschanaya Street (now Komsomolskaya) and Postal Street (Pobedy) after a fire in July 1906. The building is designed in the Art Nouveau style, which was applied in both wooden and stone architecture. In this style, Shcherbakov also designed the trading house "A.N. Permyakov and Sons," the Revyakina estate, the house of the Volgushyev brothers, where the cathedral shops and the "Batumi" hotel were previously located, and the Sterlyadkin mansion.

The architecture of the house resembles the wooden mansion that Shcherbakov built for the Syzran merchant Martinyan Chernukhin, now the city Exhibition Hall. The rectangular volumes of the building are connected perpendicularly and topped with an attic. The large hall opens onto the street through a spacious three-part window. Characteristic elements include the roof, horizontal plank cladding, and twelve rooms with a total area of about 320 square meters. There were also a wing, a canopy, a shed, and a bathhouse.

In 1909, Shcherbakov's house was valued at 150 rubles as part of the zemstvo tax on urban property. By the beginning of the revolution, its value had risen to 1200 rubles. In 1918, like other mansions of local merchants and townspeople, the house was municipalized. The main building housed the school for working youth No. 6, while the wing in the courtyard was used for renting apartments until 1926.

Years later, a building materials store opened in Shcherbakov's house. Since 1977, it has housed the "Avtolyubitel" society and a driving school. In 1992, the building was included in the list of historical and cultural sites of the Samara region.

The fate of Sergey Petrovich Shcherbakov during the Soviet era remains unknown, but it is unlikely to have been happy. However, his house, devoid of extravagance and architectural excesses, attracts with its restrained beauty and harmony.
