Every city has its architectural gems, and Izhevsk is no exception. One of its symbols is the ancient mansion at Sivkova Street, 180, which is considered the oldest building in the city. Built in 1807, it belonged to Archpriest Zachary Osievich Lyatushevich, whose portrait, unfortunately, has not survived.

The building, designed in the classical style by Izhevsk architect Semyon Dudin, features a prominent semicircular projection and a mezzanine with a balcony on its main facade. Classical elements such as profiled cornices and the frieze of the pediment give the mansion a distinctive appearance of Russian classical architecture of the 19th century. In this house, Lyatushevich lived and hosted high-profile guests, including the founder of the Izhevsk arms factory, Andrey Deryabin, and inventor Lev Sabakin. There are rumors that Pyotr Tchaikovsky's father, Ilya Petrovich, also visited here.

Zachary Osievich was a man of remarkable intellectual abilities. He developed various mechanisms for the local arms factory and in 1810 created a botanical garden next to the house, where medicinal herbs were grown, laying the foundation for pharmacology in the region. Lyatushevich also taught history, biology, geometry, and mechanics in schools.

Interestingly, he anticipated the emergence of chemical weapons. During the Patriotic War of 1812, Zachary Osievich suggested to Count Wittgenstein the use of sulfuric and nitric acid against the Grand Army, dispersing them with long syringes. He wrote that these liquids instantly burned not only the face and hands but also clothing, causing unbearable pain.

After Lyatushevich's death, the mansion was purchased by the government. Over the centuries, it housed a pharmacy, a bank, a hospital, and various government institutions. In the 1990s, the building began to deteriorate, but fortunately, local authorities took notice, and today it has been restored.
