Irza's House in Krasnodar

Фото 1
Matthias Frantsevich Irza was a well-known brewer who, over the years of his work, accumulated wealth and decided to build a mansion worthy of his name.

Unfortunately, exact data on who designed the house and who built it has not survived, as the archives of the city administration have been lost. However, architects studying the style of the building suggest that it was designed by Ivan Klementyevich Malgerb.

Irza's house was built on a hill on the right bank of the Karasun River. It turned out to be sturdy and spacious, consisting of seven rooms and a living room. On the left side, the facade was adorned with a semicircular bay window with double light, topped with a beautiful dome, which, unfortunately, was lost during restoration.

This house not only represented architectural value but also witnessed dramatic events. After the February Revolution, Irza Frantsevich, saving his life and family, left for Czechoslovakia, having sold all his property in advance.

In August 1918, when the Volunteer Army liberated Ekaterinodar from the Reds, the commander of the army, Mikhail Vasilyevich Alekseev, settled in Irza's house. In February 1917, at the height of the war with Germany, Alekseev was one of the initiators of the abdication of Emperor Nicholas II. After the Bolsheviks came to power, the general found himself "out of the historical narrative." On September 25, 1918, he died in Ekaterinodar in the former brewer's house, and on September 27, he was buried in the tomb of the Catherine Cathedral. Later, his remains were transported by his widow to Belgrade. Power in the Volunteer Army passed to A.I. Denikin.

With the establishment of Soviet power, the Central Komsomol Club opened in Irza's house. Here, on August 1, 1920, the 1st Komsomol Congress of the Kuban-Black Sea region took place. Irza's brewery was renamed "May 1st." On March 8, 1934, a railway departmental hospital opened in Irza's house, which merged with the railway clinic 14 years later.

The house has gone through years and trials, has been restored, and now houses a hotel in this architectural monument.
