One of the most original pre-revolutionary buildings in Rostov-on-Don is the residential house of Ilya Fedorovich Cheprastov, built in 1912 at the intersection of modern 10th Line and 1st May Street. Ilya Fedorovich was the brother of the owner of a brick factory in Nakhichevan and a well-known entrepreneur in Rostov.

The house stands out for its unusual architecture. The facades of the building are clad in ceramic glazed tiles, which were called "kabanчик". This tile became a characteristic feature of the Art Nouveau style in the Russian Empire due to its aesthetics and practicality. It maintains an attractive appearance for a long time and gives the building uniqueness, distinguishing it from others. Moreover, rain easily washes away dust and dirt from it. Today, Ilya Fedorovich Cheprastov's house is included in the list of cultural heritage sites and is protected by the state.
