Stock Exchange House in Rostov-on-Don

Фото 1
Before the revolution, Rostov-on-Don was one of the most prosperous cities in Southern Russia. It has preserved many architectural monuments from the early last century, including the former stock exchange house, built in 1912 in the then-popular Art Nouveau style.

This house became the center of the city's business life. Within its walls gathered the wealthiest merchants of the Don region, such as the Paramonovs, Skaramanha, Panchenko, Maksimovs, and others. Here, transactions for the buying and selling of goods, operations with securities and foreign currency took place. However, with the arrival of Soviet power, the building was confiscated, and many merchants had to flee, which not everyone succeeded in doing. Thus, Rostov-on-Don lost many enterprising individuals who made significant contributions to its development.

Today, the former stock exchange building has been restored and recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance.
