In the Serbian town of Sremski Karlovci, at 36 Stratimirovića Street, stands a house built over a hundred years ago. Although few in Russia know its significance, this building holds an important history.

It all began in the 1920s when thousands of Russian White émigrés, fleeing persecution in the USSR, found themselves in Yugoslavia. Among them was Baron Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel, commander of the Russian Army. In 1922, he moved to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, where his comrades and other Russian refugees were already located.

Baron Wrangel lived in this house in Sremski Karlovci for nearly six years with his family. The locals held him in deep respect and passed down stories about him to their children, which is why the memory of the baron is alive today. In the 21st century, a memorial plaque was installed on the house, reminding of the famous resident who is remembered and loved here.
