Income House Ratkov-Rozhnov in St. Petersburg

Фото 1
One of the most remarkable income houses in the architecture of St. Petersburg from the late 19th century is located on Pestel Street. This was the former income house of Yakov Vladimirovich Ratkov-Rozhnov.

The mansion occupies an entire triangular block, and its facades are adorned with rectangular bay windows supported by sculptures of atlantes. The project for this building was developed by the famous architect Pavel Yulievich Syuzor, the author of many diverse constructions in Petersburg.

The Ratkov-Rozhnov house is executed in an eclectic style that combines elements of various architectural directions. Due to the large depth of one of the plots, Syuzor applied a new planning technique: he transformed the largest courtyard into a courtyard separated from the street by a massive arch. The building was constructed in 1898 and 1900.

Although the owner of the house is traditionally considered to be the official Yakov Vladimirovich Ratkov-Rozhnov, the actual owner and initiator of the construction was his father, Vladimir Alexandrovich Ratkov-Rozhnov, a well-known millionaire and landlord.
