Income House of B. N. Schnaubert

Фото 1
In 1757, stone vaulted chambers were built near the Church of Saint Prince Vladimir in the Old Gardens. In the late 18th century, they were reconstructed and incorporated into the city estate of the Venediktovs. The property was separated from the church's altars by an alley that has not survived to this day.

In the 1820s, after the fire during the Napoleonic Wars, the estate was restored by its new owner, Dr. Karl Schnaubert. He built a service wing and outbuildings next to the main house.

In the 1810s, Karl Schnaubert was the personal physician to the families of the Moscow commanders Fyodor Vasilyevich Rostopchin and Alexander Petrovich Tormasov.

In the second half of the 19th century, part of the property at the corner with Kolpachny Alley passed to B. Sh. Monoszon, while the plot adjacent to the Church of Saint Vladimir remained with the Schnaubert family. From the 1880s, it belonged to brothers Vladimir and Boris Schnauberts. Vladimir Nikolaevich was a well-known clinician and chief physician of the Old-Ekaterininskaya City Hospital. Boris Nikolaevich, to whom the property was registered, was a Moscow architect, the author of many interesting buildings, including the house of E. I. Tsvetkov on Prechistenskaya Embankment and the income house of Pertzova on Soimonovsky Passage. Boris was also involved in charity work and was part of the Khitrov City Guardianship for the Poor.

In 1903, Boris Nikolaevich built a four-story income house on a high semi-basement according to his design. The building's facades were decorated simply, with a balcony featuring an elegant metal railing on the side of the church and a bay window with a balcony on the side of Kholokhovsky Alley. The entrance had a decorative ceramic panel with water lilies in the Art Nouveau style. The base of the house preserved the 18th-century chambers, and the service wing from the 1820s was also included. In 1910, the building was partially reconstructed.

Boris Schnaubert passed away in October 1917. After the revolution, his underage children, two daughters and a son, continued to live in their parental home, occupying two rooms in a communal apartment on the first floor.
