The Udmurt land is famous for its architectural masterpieces, and one of the most remarkable buildings in the Middle Pri Kama is the dacha of merchant Pavel Bashenin. In the early 20th century, he served as the mayor of Sarapul and made significant contributions to the development of his homeland by building schools and roads, and providing water supply and electricity. In winter, he lived in the city house, while he preferred to spend summer at his dacha, which is the subject of this discussion.

This magnificent dacha was built in 1909 according to the design of Moscow architect Pavel Trubnikov. The architect chose the then-popular Art Nouveau style, adding some Gothic elements, which gives the building a resemblance to a medieval castle. At first glance, it seems that the house is entirely wooden, but in fact, it was constructed from brick and then finished with wood. The height of the dacha is impressive and resembles an urban multi-story building, although it has only two floors and a spacious attic.

For its time, the building was well-equipped: it had electricity and heating. The architect also took care of the surrounding area. The road from the entrance led to a beautiful fruit garden, next to which was the fountain "Children in the Rain," symbolizing the owner's children. Inside, the dacha was as luxurious as it was outside: the floors were covered with expensive carpets, the rooms were furnished with elegant furniture, and the walls were adorned with picturesque paintings. Bashenin also assembled an impressive library for himself.

In 1917, the dacha, like many other noble and merchant buildings, became state property. In the early years of Soviet power, the house was used as a shelter for homeless children, and later a Children's Republican Sanatorium No. 1 was organized on its basis. However, difficult times began: after the sanatorium moved out, the building quickly fell into disrepair. Fortunately, the Museum of History and Culture of Middle Pri Kama took on its restoration. Thanks to the efforts of the museum staff, the dacha was renovated and the Art and Exhibition Complex "Bashenin's Dacha" was opened here.
