On July 5, 2002, with the blessing of Archbishop Antoniy Cheremisov of Krasnoyarsk, three nuns from the Blagoveshchensky Monastery in Krasnoyarsk arrived in the village of Kocherghino to restore the Ascension Church and establish a women's monastery. They settled in the building of a former kindergarten. On July 20 of the same year, the first festive service was held in honor of the Resurrection of Christ and the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God with an akathist. The official establishment of the monastery took place in 2003. Since 2005, an annual procession has been held on the feast of the Ascension from the Minusinsk Spassky Cathedral to the Ascension Church in Kocherghino. On June 1, 2006, Archbishop Antoniy led a solemn Divine Liturgy with the consecration of the Ascension Church.

The Ascension parish in the village of Kocherghino, Yenisei province, was founded in 1857. It included residents from several nearby villages: Shoshino, Murino, Taskino, Zherlyk, and Bely Yar. According to data from 1901, there were 4,813 parishioners in the parish. In the same year, construction began on a wooden church on a stone foundation in honor of the Ascension of the Lord, which was completed in 1862. The church was consecrated on January 8, 1863. In 1879, the church was renovated and existed until 1908, when a new stone church began to operate.

In 1886, a church parish school was opened at the church, which became a two-class school in 1900. In 1907, there were 30 boys and 23 girls studying at the school, with Deacon Shcherbakov as the teacher and Z. Uzorovykh as the teacher. In the early 1910s, the teachers were P.Ya. Frolova and V.K. Guz. According to the staffing schedule of 1889, the parish should consist of a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist.

In 1896, parishioners appealed to the Yenisei Spiritual Administration with a request to build a new stone church to replace the old wooden one. In 1900, construction began, carried out by the residents of Kocherghino and surrounding villages. In 1901, work was suspended, but in 1905-1906, construction resumed: the church was whitewashed, grilles and frames were installed in the windows, and part of the roof was covered with iron. In 1908, after the completion of interior work and the installation of the iconostasis, the church was consecrated and became operational. By the spring of 1913, an iron fence on a stone foundation was built around the church.

In the 1930s, the church was closed, the domes with crosses were removed, and it was converted into a grain storage facility. The last rector, Priest Vsevolod Barkov, was arrested and exiled for 10 years to the Kolyma camps.

In 2002, the restoration of the Ascension Church began as the main church of the Ascension Women's Monastery, and by 2010, the restoration was completed.
