The village of Yelpatyevo is located on the Nerl River, which flows into the Volga, 180 versts from Vladimir and 52 versts from Pereslavl-Zalessky. In the early 17th century, the church was not in the village itself, but a verst away, at the burial site by the Nerl River. According to the scribal books of 1628-1629, there stood the Church of the Ascension of Christ with an altar in honor of the Great Martyr Paraskeva, which existed until 1711. In that year, the owner of the village Yelpatyevo, the steward Semyon Gotovtsev, moved the church into the village. The new wooden church had two altars: in honor of the Ascension of the Lord and Saint Great Martyr Paraskeva Friday. A small stone chapel remained at the site of the former church.

In 1814, the new owner of the village, chamberlain Pavel Petrovich Naryshkin, began the construction of a stone temple at his own expense. The construction lasted 15 years, and in 1829 the temple was consecrated. The wooden church continued to be used for services in winter until 1849, when it burned down and was not restored. A small stone chapel was also built in its place. The stone temple has three altars: in honor of the Ascension of the Lord, the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and Saint Great Martyr Paraskeva, called Friday.
