The first wooden church in the village was built during the time of St. Sergius of Radonezh, who erected a cross at the site of a former pagan altar.

In the 17th century, a wooden church was built on this site in honor of the Exaltation of the Cross, featuring two chapels. On January 1, 1784, a severe fire occurred in the church, but the icons and church items were saved. In 1786, a new wooden temple was constructed, which stood until 1869.

In 1823, the nobleman Nikolai Salomiretsky submitted a request for permission to build a stone church with two chapels in Vozdvizhenskoe. However, construction halted due to a lack of funds. The new owner of the village, A.I. Mukhanova, suffered significant losses as cracks in the walls of the newly built church forced its dismantling to the foundation. Only the Moscow provincial architect D.F. Borisov was able to erect a stone church here, which was consecrated by St. Philaret, the Metropolitan of Moscow, on September 29, 1847. Bells were installed in 1855, and the Alexiev chapel was only completed in 1885 due to a lack of funds.

During the Soviet era, the stone church was looted and closed. It was only in the 1970s that it was transferred to the management of the Zagorsk Museum-Reserve, and restoration began in stages. In 1990, services resumed in the church. In recent years, the church has been painted externally, the roof has been renewed, and heating and lighting have been installed.

Nearby, there is a local cemetery and the wooden architecture museum "Novoe-Staroje."

The dome of the Exaltation church is clearly visible from the Yaroslavl highway, and the church is an important place for believers throughout the region.
