Documents in the church archive indicate that in the 1730s, there was a wooden church in the village of Zakobyakino dedicated to the Assumption of the Mother of God, which was under the administration of the Kostroma Epiphany Monastery. In 1763, due to its dilapidation, the church was dismantled, and a new wooden church on a stone foundation with one altar of the same name was built in its place. It burned down in 1873.
The current parish church, made of stone and featuring five domes, was erected in 1846 through the efforts of the parishioners. It has three altars: in the main cold part, in the name of the Assumption of the Mother of God, and two in the warm refectory: to the right, in the name of the apostles Peter and Paul, and to the left, in the name of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, the miracle worker. The latter chapel was built in 1848 with funds from a native of Zakobyakino, Metropolitan Philotheus of Kyiv, known in the world as Timofey Uspensky. In 1904, a stone chapel was built in the village of Khlyestovo.
The church has 36 desyatinas of land, of which 2 desyatinas 1150 square fathoms are allocated for the estate, 1 desyatina 1800 square fathoms for haymaking, overgrown with pine forest and shrubs, and the remaining part is arable land. Additionally, 23 desyatinas of haymaking land and small forest, located 7 versts from the church, have been donated, known as "deserted verst." There are houses for each member of the clergy and for church needs. The church capital amounts to 3790 rubles 34 kopecks. The parish has 1386 men and 1740 women. The village is located 5 versts from the Kostroma River on flat terrain. There are four single-class schools in the parish: one church-parish school in Zakobyakino and three zemstvo schools in the village and the villages of Khlyestovo and Ruzbugino. In the village, there is a library-reading room and a medical point with a doctor, a paramedic, and a midwife at the Ositsk volost administration. The clergy staff includes a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist, and the parish capital in securities amounts to 4560 rubles.
