The Trinity Cathedral in Varnavino includes three churches: the Trinity Church, a stone structure with a bell tower, built in 1836 with funds from the church and parishioners; the Nicholas Church, a wooden, single-altar church dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, built in 1666 with funds from a former monastery, and renovated in 1854 by the Tikhonov merchants from Kazan; and the Assumption Church, also wooden, erected in 1847 with funds from the cathedral and parishioners. The fence around the cathedral is made of stone. The cemetery is located outside the city, where the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross with a separate clergy is situated.

In the Trinity Church, there are three altars: in honor of the Life-Giving Trinity, the Korsun Icon of the Mother of God, and the Venerable Varus of Vetluga. The Assumption Church also has three altars: in honor of the Assumption of the Mother of God, Saint Archangel Michael, and other Bodiless Powers, as well as Saint Mitrophan of Voronezh. In the Nicholas Church, the relics of the Venerable Varus rest beneath the altar, and there are many icons of ancient writing.

The distance from Kostroma to Varnavino is 384 versts. The nearest churches are: the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross at the cemetery, the Nicholas Church in the village of Lapshangi 5 versts away, the Mother of God Church in the village of Bebeirina 6 versts away, and the Theological Church in the village of Bogoslovskoye 22 versts away.

All three churches were lost in the 1930s, and the relics of the Venerable were transferred to the cemetery church. Their further fate is unknown. In 2000, a wooden church in honor of the Venerable Varus of Vetluga was built near the site where the Trinity Cathedral once stood.
