The village of Shentala, located in the Samara region and serving as a district center, is relatively young, having celebrated its centenary in 2011. Until recently, there was no Orthodox church in the village. In 1990, with the blessing of Bishop Evsevy of Samara and Syzran, parishioners converted a former military enlistment office into a prayer house. The first service took place on Palm Sunday in 1991, and in August of the same year, the parish received a permanent priest, Archpriest Leonid Krasilnikov. In May 1995, Archbishop Sergey of Samara and Syzran laid the first stone for the Orthodox church on Shentalin land. The construction of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary lasted seven years and faced varying degrees of success.

In May 2002, domes were installed and bells were consecrated. In the same year, on the Day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the church was consecrated, and the first Liturgy was held. The church is built of brick, has one altar and a tiered bell tower, and its wide base is adorned with decorative five domes. A Sunday school operates at the church, where about 15 children are educated. The church actively engages in educational and social activities, and residents from the entire district participated in its construction. For them, this place is important not only from a religious perspective but also from an aesthetic and historical standpoint.
