In 1928, Princess Vera Meshcherskaya established a shelter for Russian emigrants in the estate of Saint-Genèvieve called "Russian House named after Empress Maria Feodorovna." At the same time, a cemetery was created here, becoming an important burial site for the Russian emigration.

In 1938 and 1939, architect Albert Benois built the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which is a small snow-white church with a blue dome.

A portal with frescoes depicting angels leads to the church. To the right of the church is a two-tiered bell tower, designed in the style of Pskov architecture and dedicated to the Apostle Paul. The interior frescoes of the church were also created by Albert Benois. Later, the artist and his wife were buried in this church, which he himself built.
