The Assumption Cathedral, built with the funds of parishioners in 1754, is a brick single-domed summer church. Its tiered composition, an octagon on a square, is executed in the style of Moscow Baroque. The high two-light and two-tiered square is topped with a low octagon, which is crowned with an octagonal lantern with a pyramidal roof. On the western side, a low elongated single-story refectory adjoins the church, equal in size to the first level of the church, creating a unified volume with it. The eastern part of the church features an altar apse with a faintly expressed three-lobed outline. The base of the apse is highlighted by a belt of two half-rollers and a row of edging.

The external decoration is mainly executed in the traditions of the 17th century: bundles of half-columns at the corners, cornice dryings, and window frames with three-rayed finishes. Many elements of the facade decoration were borrowed from the nearby Resurrection Church. However, new elements appeared in the exterior finish: a cornice of city blocks, rusticated pilasters at the corners of the main octagon, as well as a stepped cornice and triangular pediments on the upper octagon, indicating the monument's affiliation with the 18th century. Remnants of glue painting from the mid-19th century have been preserved on the vault and walls of the octagon.

During the Soviet era, the building was converted into a fire station, resulting in the loss of some window frames, breaches in the walls of the refectory and apse, and the removal of the domes and drums on the narthex.
