The church was built in 1804 with funds from parishioners. In 1883, a chapel was erected in the winter part of the church thanks to donations from the Danilov merchant Makariy Yakovlevich Palmin.

The church building is made of stone, has five domes, and features a tiered bell tower. There are three altars in the church: in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Sign," and in honor of Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the Miracle Worker. The icon of the Mother of God "Sign" was especially venerated.

The church was closed in 1938. During the Soviet era, its premises housed a grain storage facility.
