Holy Trinity Church in Nizhnie Muly

Фото 1
On the high bank of the Kama River, the Holy Trinity Church has stood for almost 130 years, closely associated with the name of Saint Blessed Trifon. It was from here in the 16th century that the spread of Christianity began in the Kama region, marking the start of a new spiritual history for the area.

In 2019, a monument to Trifon of Vyatka was erected on the church grounds, created by young Perm sculptor Ilya Galiulin. The bronze sculpture was cast in a workshop in Krasnoufimsk with the support of the company "Lukoil," which financed the restoration of the church. The saint is depicted in a boat, reminding us of his search for solitude on the banks of the Kama, where he found a boat and sailed down the river. At Glyadenov Mountain, he heard a miraculous voice directing him to a place for a monastery. Here, he cut down a ritual fir tree, destroying a pagan shrine, which astonished the local residents.

The first wooden church in memory of Trifon of Vyatka was built in 1678. The village, named Nizhne-Mullinsky, is first mentioned in documents from 1623-1624. Initially, Tatars lived here, later joined by Russian settlers. The lands on which the settlement stood were granted by Tsar Ivan to the Stroganov family and later passed to Prince Mikhail Golitsyn.

In the late 19th century, construction of a stone church began on the site of the old church, but due to the abolition of serfdom, the construction was halted. It resumed in 1871 thanks to the efforts of parishioners. In 1875, the winter chapel in honor of Alexander Nevsky was consecrated, and in 1882, the summer chapel in honor of the Holy Trinity. In 1866, a school was opened at the church.

In 1937, the church was closed, and its building was used for economic needs. During the war, a tobacco factory operated here. In 1985, a fire destroyed the iconostasis and frescoes. After that, the building was handed over to the Perm Diocese.

In 1989, the church reopened for parishioners. Restoration work began in the early 1990s. In 2004, a second wave of restoration began, supported by the "Lukoil" company. Modern technologies and materials were used for the restoration, including plaster from Germany. The new iconostasis is made in the style of the 16th century, and church utensils were ordered from the "Sofrino" factory. A unique iconostasis in the winter chapel was made by the company "Posad-Izograph."

The church has unusual acoustics, with sound lasting 18-20 seconds. Since 2006, restoration has been carried out under an agreement between the Perm region and "Lukoil." In 2009, the facades were painted in red-orange, and a new bell weighing over 4 tons was installed in the bell tower. The villagers heard the ringing of all 12 bells, cast in the style of the bells of the Moscow Kremlin.
