The village of Karacharovo is located on the Oka River, 125 versts from Vladimir and 5 versts from Murom. The land books of 1629-1630 state that "Karacharovo was granted by Tsar Mikhail Fyodorovich to Prince Vasily Yanushevich Suleyshov for participation in the siege of Moscow." At that time, there were two wooden churches in the village: the Life-Giving Trinity and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Two priests, a deacon, a church clerk, and a prosphora baker served there. The parish had 187 peasant households, 32 landless households, and 6 widows' households.

According to an inscription in the surviving Gospel in the church, there was also a church of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos in Karacharovo in the second half of the 17th century. No information about the churches of the 18th century has survived, but local chronicles mention that before the construction of the stone church in Karacharovo, there was a wooden church of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos with an altar dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.

The Trinity Church in Karacharovo, now in the Murom district, was built in 1828 on a high bank of the Oka. Next to it, closer to the river, is a holy spring, which, according to legend, appeared at the place where Ilya Muromets' horse "jumped." It is said that the first wooden church here was built from three huge oaks pulled from the Oka by Ilya Muromets himself. Among the owners of the village were notable families: the Cherkasskys, the Naryshkins, the Sheremetevs, and the Razumovskys. The stone Trinity Church was built under the latter, replacing two wooden churches.

The Trinity Church is distinguished by its size, high bell tower, and massive main volume with an octagon and wide dome. Unfortunately, it is in a deplorable state and is almost destroyed. However, the four-tiered bell tower has survived, been restored, and whitewashed. A chapel has been arranged in it, where a relic of St. Ilya Muromets is kept, as indicated by a plaque on the doors. On this street, one can also find a house with a plaque indicating the place where the hut of the famous hero stood.

The church staff includes two priests, a deacon, and two psalmists. Their maintenance is ensured by income from church land, interest from capital of 3679 rubles, and services that bring in more than 100 rubles a year. The houses of the clergy are located on church land. The parish includes only the village of Karacharovo, which has 438 households, 1098 men, and 1255 women according to clerical records. Karacharovo has a zemstvo public school, one of the oldest in the province, opened in the late 18th century by Count Razumovsky. Later, its maintenance was taken over by Count Uvarov, and then the school came under the jurisdiction of the zemstvo.
