Trinity Church in Bolshoye Murashkino

In the village of Bolshoye Murashkino, a significant number of Orthodox churches are connected to the fact that until the mid-18th century, there were two monasteries here: the Spaso-Transfiguration Men's Monastery and the Trinity Women's Monastery. According to the land and census books of the 17th century, the women's monastery was founded in 1632 by order of Patriarch Filaret. It was established by Abbess Agafiya, who was confirmed in her position on June 22, 1634. In 1681, there was a church in the monastery in honor of Saint Sergius of Radonezh, described as low with a wooden roof. The second church, dedicated to the Holy Life-Giving Trinity, burned down in 1671 during a peasant uprising led by Stepan Razin.

The Trinity Monastery was not wealthy, but in terms of the number of inhabitants, it surpassed the men's monastery. In 1681, there were 29 cells here, inhabited by 81 elders. In the 19th century, a list of abbesses of the monastery was compiled, among whom, after Abbess Agafiya, were Thaïsia, Euphemia, Pelageya, and Anna. In 1723, during the process of reducing monasteries, a small monastery from the village of Shershovo was annexed to the Trinity Monastery. In 1764, during the church reform, the Trinity Monastery was abolished, and its churches became parish churches. In 1780, in the records of abolished monasteries, it was mentioned that the monastery had 11 state-owned and 28 private wooden cells.

At the site where the stone Trinity church now stands, there was previously a women's monastery of the same name. According to archival data, the stone Trinity church was built in 1803 with the funds of parishioners. Later, local merchants erected a fence made of cast iron around the church. In the refectory part of the church, two chapels were consecrated: in honor of Saint Sergius of Radonezh and the icon of the Mother of God "Seven Lakes." During the construction of the church, the previous names of the altars were preserved in memory of the monastery. The church was built over several years, which is reflected in its architectural styles. To this day, an antimins consecrated in 1833 by Bishop Ambrose has been preserved. In 1930, the church was closed, and services resumed only in 1990.

The ensemble of the Trinity church from 1803, with the bell tower and the priest's house, is a monument of regional architectural significance. According to local historian Vladimir Bakunin, the remains of the Ilyinskaya stone church, built in 1733, have been preserved in Bolshoye Murashkino, with altars in honor of the prophet Elijah, the martyrs Flora and Lavra, and Prince Alexander Nevsky.
