The history of the Holy Trinity parish began in 1989 when residents of Azov, who attended services at the Holy Protection Church in the village of Kagalnik, approached local authorities with a request to open an Orthodox church in the city. It took time to obtain permission, requiring trips to Moscow. Eventually, local authorities handed over a small building to the parish, which the parishioners renovated themselves. Soon, regular services began to be held in the Holy Trinity prayer house. However, the building proved too small for all the believers, and it was decided to construct a new Holy Trinity church.

On August 18, 1989, a plot of land was allocated for its construction, and by February 2, 1990, a small church was erected. That same year, preparations began for the construction of a larger church, which started in 1991. In 1994, despite the unfinished construction, services began to be held in the new Holy Trinity church.

In 2000, the construction of the bell tower was completed, and bells made in Voronezh were installed. In 2001, the church walls were faced with bricks, and the courtyard was improved. The most significant work took place in 2004: the church underwent reconstruction and major renovations, the roof was covered with sheet copper, and a carved five-tier iconostasis was installed. All difficulties were overcome, and the process was successfully completed.

In 2007, the church's frescoes began to be painted. There is still much work to be done, both in the church itself and in the Enlightenment Center, where classes, auditoriums, and workshops are planned. A licensed Sunday school operates at the church, providing spiritual support to Azov Women's Colony No. 18 (Uch398/18). There is also an Orthodox spiritual and educational youth center.
