The village of Romanovo, located by Lake Vashutinskoye, is 26 versts from the district town and 150 versts from the provincial capital. In the early 18th century, it belonged to Mikhail Matveyevich Yeropkin. In 1707, he built a church in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, where a priest and a deacon served.

In 1765, with the blessing of Bishop Silvester of Pereslavl, the construction of a new wooden church in honor of the same saint began. However, according to local legend, it burned down during construction. After the fire, the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God was found unharmed, and in its honor, a church was consecrated in 1768 on the site of the burned one.

In 1848, a new stone temple was built to replace the dilapidated wooden church. It has two altars: in the cold part, in honor of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, and in the warm refectory, in the name of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church is well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. The Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, adorned with a silver-gilded riza, is especially venerated by parishioners and locals. All church documents have been preserved: copies of the metric books since 1803 and confession lists since 1824.
